Does anyone really believe that a four-day work week is going to help decrease the usage of gasoline?  Doesn't it seem that this would just give people more opportunity to use those days for recreation, travel, etc?  I know that I don't have all the answers (heck, I don't even know all the questions) but this just seems stupid to me.  What do the bloggers say?

who gives a BLEEP if a 4 day work week would save gas

I just like the idea of NOT working any more days than I have too and having another day off

Just because your boss has you work four days
instead of five doesn't mean that he is going to pay you the same amount, now does it?

I use more gas on my days off. I wouldn't mind working 4-10 hour days though!

When I have a day off during the week, I rarely go anywhere.

The State works a 4 day week in some areas. It works well for them. Same hours, same pay. A great many of them do stay home on that extra day off, and R&R. Good idea. A better idea would be to re-instate the Texas Blue Laws. No store should be open on Sunday. We would all have to re-adjust our way of shopping, but it would be easy. Families could spend a Sunday together. Home cooking is much better than eating out. I think only car dealerships still abide by the Blue Laws. Christian businesses are closed on Sunday. It does not hurt their profits one bit.

RR - I like your response. But, believe me when I say that Wally World would never stand for that suggestion. After all, weren't they the ones who killed the Texas Blue Law in the first place?
In today's world, wouldn't it be nice to have everyone off on Sunday? Time for R&R and family. Gosh, it would almost be like the 50's & 60's again. Of course, there are so few that are old enough to remember when we actually had "family time". But, after all, the purpose of my post was to see if anyone thought the country could actually save gas by going to a four day work week. Not just one or two individuals.

It would save gas only if people were willing to stay home, or at least limit their driving. I wonder if people are really interested in saving gas. We have all heard on news reports that slowing driving speed reduces consumption. I have yet to see anyone in the Dallas side of the metroplex slow down. They drive 80 MPH everywhere they go. I firmly believe that a very large percentage of people do not really care, especially on the Dallas Tollway. You take your life in your own hands there ! I once said that the west half of the metroplex drives really stupid. By that I mean they do absurd things. But they have fewer accidents. The east side does not do so many stupid things, just drive like maniacs. More accidents. The west half is a much better family area than the east half. People are nicer over there. It has a good feel about it. I feel sorry for people who live in or around Dallas. I am glad I live further north, but it is happening here now. To answer the question, I don't think people will ever try to save gas, even on a 4 day week, even though it might work well.

i have a 4 day work week, i work longer days and i love it! it does save gas. i drive nearly 30 miles into work one way. so that's an extra $8 in my pocket i save.
the 4 days off in a row allow me to spend more time with my family and i'm more refreshed when i go into work. :)

Ha...ha..ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Really? Going from a six day workweek to only four? What would I do with all that time? How can I still fit 1,200 miles a week of driving each week into only four days??? And then also 35 hours of paperwork?

Hmmmmmmmm. Someone actually wants us to do this? I could burn a tank or two less eack week I suppose. I only fill up three or four times a week right now. Would my pay go down for being less productive??? Or will we just eliminate the job all together and reopen the position in say,... China? Yeahhhhhhhh! I mean, ahhh soooo!

I work for Fedex Ground and I would love to have a 4 day work week...but i don't think its gonna work out like that... it would be too much like right and some companies don't give a damn about their employees and how much they spend on gas per week..I would love to just work from home and not even drive to work, but yeah right...that would be too much like right as well.I think that we should all just go to work and come back to the house, stop buying stuff, stay outta these stores, stop making unessesary purchases. If we don't spend any money on anything maybe these prices will go down and thats on grocerys as well as gas.

i don't think it's something that every business can do. those indistries that deal directly with the public most certainly could not. truck drivers could not because their pay is by their time on the road. but the post office could. how many of us get mail anymore other than junk, and how many of us couldn't do without mail service on saturday anyway?
But if you work in an office, perhaps you support the "frontline" employees, there is nothing wrong with it. office workers easily can adjust the work schedule to 4-10's

I would LOVE to have a 4 day work week. As it is, we work 4 1/2 days, which is nice also. However, I just go to work and come home. I drive 60 mph on the freeways, on cruise.

I don't go any where, or do anything, and I'm spending LESS money, than I did, and still I'm having trouble making ends meet. AND, I'm working 2 jobs. Go figure!

I'm going to give up and go back to riding the bus!

And Klutzy i would ride the bus in a heart beat if my area had a bus line...they don't so i guess i'm having to drive anyway.

Rusty Nickel just about describes me. I'm a bit rusty and don't really have two nickels to rub together. Retired retail executive who now works part-time in the home mortgage field. Travel extensively throughout North and East Texas, sometimes logging as much as 1200 miles per week. Work when I want to, play when I need to. Hobbies include cooking (eating), gardening and entertaining grandchildren. Dislike obnoxious people, arragant people and those who are so one sided that they need to be propped up so they don't fall over. Can't understand why parents fail to raise children who respect others and take responsibility for their own actions. I have a couple of "rotten kids" who have a couple of "rotten kids" -- and, I admit that I've probably had a hand in making 'em that way. I love kids, dogs, fast cars and lots of good food. Hate commercials that show foods that I can never get when I order the same thing....still love to cook and hate to clean up afterwards.
