scottythecomic's whimsical rantings

by scottythecomic from North Dallas

Last Post 2 days, 5 hours Ago

So today the City Council votes on what to rename Industrial Blvd.  Mayor Tom Leppert was on Good Day speaking on the subject and it sounded like Chavez was but a remote possibility.  Tom advised that a more appropriate name reflecting the changes downtown was better.

Leppert thought Cesar Chavez should have a street named after him but even paused when Ross Avenue was mentioned by Tim. Is the mayor considering a side street or alley or what?

What do you think, considering Chavez's life and record?

I think the street waaay out in south Dallas that takes one to that major city dump, should be it then.
But honestly NO... we don't need to rename our streets to honor radical leftist.

:))) @ furbs! Now, that's an real idea!!!

Leave our streets named as they are.

If they want to name a street after that jerk, do it in mexico or LA not Texas.

The ironic thing is is that illegals also had a part in casting their vote for the renaming Industrial, and yet Chavez despised illegals.

I think the Ross brothers were earlier settlers of Dallas. It doesn't make any sense to take their name away and use Chavez who has never had anything to do with Dallas.

You're right Scottbee, the Ross brothers WERE early settlers, developers and all around early Dallasites. Let's change history and say Chavez did so much for Dallas ~ yeah right! Next they'll want to change Tom Landry Highway to the Vicente Fox Tollroad!

I always get a laugh when this subject comes up. It was not a few years ago that labor day in Dallas was also named Cesar Chavez day. There were many news reports about it and one evening newscast even had a "viewers voice" segment in which a woman with a hispanic accent called in to express her dismay that Dallas would "name a holiday after a boxer"...
I'm not sure if she was serious, but I have always enjoyed that.

Regarding the street naming: If Cesar Chavez deserves a street to be named after him why not one of the many new streets that Dallas will have one day around the Trinity project? Or why not just add him to the list of names for every highway in Dallas? 635/LBJ/Cesar Chavez? 67/35/MLK/Cesar Chavez? 75/Central/Cesar Chavez... I would even give him top billing on Cesar Chavez/Woodall Rogers, but that is mainly because I am uncertain of where that is and new signs would help me out.

That's a good one about the Viewer's Voice, Da. haha

Just name a steet after him in a new neighborhood and let's move on with it all ready.

"Martin Luther King"

"Cesar Chavez"

Hmmm, I think there is a real difference here, and it ain't racial despite all efforts to the contrary...

Wait, now they're threatening people "on the cool" if they get resistance with regards to renaming Ross Avenue.

Hey scotty - I'll try to stick with this avatar for a while now. I made it mahself (using the southpark site) so I'm pretty proud of it. I hope you can be more at peace.

HaHa, I knew you'd get that.

You know, TI, I don't suck up to people and I guess some find me too harsh. Oh, well.

Idiots like John Boy (with a huge emphasis on boy) get a free pass from most as they attribute his behaviour to "teen angst." Not me.

The Oprah-ization and coddling of our youth will add to the already increasing death knell of this once great country.

Can you imagine if men would have acted like this in WW2?

I can tell you this much, there wouldn't be many kids around.

I tried to question why he hated Christians. He went on a rant. I argued a few points. He made a sarcastic comment and now he's talking crap about me. I see you are a kindred target.

I don't believe you do people any favors by humoring them and acting like they are right. We make a lot of enemies, sir.

Native Californian transplanted to Texas in 1989, and I love the Metroplex! I'm a veteran paratrooper/infantryman and very conservative minded. I have no qualms about confronting policies that are detrimental to the United States of America regardless of any political persuasion. I support a strong military, tough, no-nosense politics, truth, justice and yes, even apple pie. I am against the Oprah-ization of this country, liberal politics and seditionists at every level. I'm a firm believer in the idea that the coddling mentality has backfired and served to ruin the backbone of America. There's nothing a good ass-kicking or some firm policies won't fix. I love sports, most notably NASCAR, the NHL, the NFL and MLB. I am a season ticket holder for the Dallas Stars and out at Texas Motor Speedway. Win or lose, I stick to my teams: Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians and the San Diego Padres.
