scottythecomic's whimsical rantings

I first heard about www.there.com on the news.  Intrigued, I jotted down the address for a later day when I wasn't so busy.  Last night was such an occasion.

So what is it? Well, There is a virtual community, a place where one can intermingle with others in a second world of sorts. You create a character and give him or her a name. But it isn't just a game or a place to hang out, but there is money to be made on There.

Joining is free. But if you want to improve your character, one does so for mere pennies, yes, real money. For instance, for $9.95 you can make your avatar a premium one and this entitles you to actually open a store in There world. Some people are making $1,000 a month in There and it's only drawing more and more people.

Last night I created a person, clothed him and walked around talking to people. As time permits, I'll create vehicles for sale and see where things go. For those of you who are former chatters, imagine a chat room with characters you can move around, skateboard, ride dune buggies, etc.

By the way, it is  Light in There 24/7. If you have time, check it out.  But be forewarned, if you like blogging and/or chatting, There can and is quickly addicting.

I can see in the near future.... reality world closed down in lue of the virtual. LOL (seriously?!) CSI has something similar... except you get to solve crimes. Blood'n gore'n stuff.

I'll have to check it out. If you see me there, scotty, I'll be the one CLINGING tightly to my credit card.

LOL...I spend way too much time on this place already.

If I step into this kind of virtual world, I may not come back.

That place looks cool though...

TM, if you get a premium account, you can actually hear and talk with your avatar.

And yes, you can buy virtual clothes, dune buggies, stereo equipment, houses, etc. It is weird but addictive.

I stuck out like a sore thumb until I bought some surfer shorts (no mankinis for me). Some of these people have been in There for a year.

Anyway, before I knew it, it was 1:30am!

I looked BRIEFLY... and it does look fun'n interesting. But I can't help but wonder if this is what our 'brave new world' is coming to. That ppl actually create and live in an 'alternate world', they believe to be, of their own making? Incapable, unable to live, learn, work, make friend in the 'real' world? Wait til ole goofy Dr. Phil gets ahold of this. LOL

I think people these days are looking for an escape to "real life" situations.

I would bet most of the "addicted" people in there fall into a specific demographic.

Dr. Phil? Oh dear...That man cant even save his own relationship.

Believe it or not, the corporate world has hired designers out of there!

One guy in there told me it gives him the confidence to do things in the real world after he gauges responses in There.

Oh, and people come and go in There real quick. Some gal came up and kissed me then ran. I was like...what? Hussies in the virtual world...go figure! lol

Yeah, that's a good one, POV. lol

Oh, if you want to do things in there you type commands.

For instance, if you want to smile at someone you simply type 'smile

'wink

'nod

'kiss

There are a lot of things one can do in There but there's no nuidty etc allowed.

LMAO Scotty, right?

I have a thing for online poker. I play just about every night on Full Tilt. That is very addictive as well.

Play chips though...Not real cash...

I know what you mean about the time though. On some Friday nights, I can play till about 2 or 3 it seems.

Native Californian transplanted to Texas in 1989, and I love the Metroplex! I'm a veteran paratrooper/infantryman and very conservative minded. I have no qualms about confronting policies that are detrimental to the United States of America regardless of any political persuasion. I support a strong military, tough, no-nosense politics, truth, justice and yes, even apple pie. I am against the Oprah-ization of this country, liberal politics and seditionists at every level. I'm a firm believer in the idea that the coddling mentality has backfired and served to ruin the backbone of America. There's nothing a good BLEEP-kicking or some firm policies won't fix. I love sports, most notably NASCAR, the NHL, the NFL and MLB. I am a season ticket holder for the Dallas Stars and out at Texas Motor Speedway. Win or lose, I stick to my teams: Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians and the San Diego Padres.
