Here it is in the news again, the misuse of what were called P-Cards in DISD. They were called procurement cards and they were intended to use the money in the budget to buy things. Teachers and others are budgeted so much for supplies, so much for software, and etc each year. Believe me it was not enough to go out and splurge at the teacher/counselor/librarian level! Many of them would have the principal move their budgeted money into the p-card account so they could use it like a credit card when making an order over the phone to Office Depot or one of the supply catalogs. Even when handling someone else's money, most teachers always try get the most for the money! The vast majority of DISD folks with p-cards used them wisely, but the actions of a small minority have ruined what was an easy process to order items for the schools and classrooms. Now it's back to them having to jump through hoops to purchase even the smallest item!
I hope they get everyone who misused their p-cards, not just the ones who grossly mis-used them with Ipods and expensive items, but EVERYONE. Even if all they bought was one Starbuck's latte, they misused money intended for the school and in turn the students. Because of their actions the rest of the teachers and administrators have to suffer the consequences.

I hear ya Sue, I also work in an environment that has P Cards and I am responsible for the custody and reconciliation of a few of them. It is a shame that a hand full of people can cause such damage and cast a shadow over the people who abide by the guidelines, document to the hilt every single purchase and have a written justification for it all. Goes back to the old saying "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch" but it also goes along with everything else in the world, you never really hear about the majority which are good, you only hear about the troublemakers. I hope they get them all too (you can add welfare abusers and insurance fraud to that list too)

Yep Graywolf....you are right it is taxpayer money....our money.....money DISD was entrusted with to educate students and use for that purpose.

2T2P Oh heck yeah, get anyone who gains from dishonesty and fraud!

I saw where someone even was looking for a man or woman on e-harmony and charged that to the P-Card. I think that one got me worse than the IPod purchase for some reason....using money for schools to find a "hook-up" Geeeeez!

Most likely these folks didn't have the kind of parents we had that taught us that if I didn't work for it or pay for it...it wasn't yours!

Who has to jump through hoops? Why can't the teachers turn in requisitions for their supplies. Is there something that a teacher has to have that can't wait a few days? When DISD allowed P-cards or whatever you call this invitation to graft; they asked the teachers to do exactly what they have been caught doing.
Boo Hoo; teachers are just as greedy as senators, cops, mayors, etc.

See there is your first misconception it does not take a few days. It takes weeks. There are times staff are cutting 8 1/2 x 14 paper down to regular size because the paper that was ordered weeks ago hasn't arrived and since the school doesn't have books for some subjects copies of information is necessary.

Also many of the worse offenders were not teachers, because almost all of the DISD teachers did not have P-Cards. There were only about 1,200 cards, there are over 10,000 teacher and that doesn't include any administration. It is mostly the administration that had the P-Cards.

I am furious about the P-Card issues, but realize like most things it isn't the grunts that are guilty but the upper management.

Thanks orphan for your input.
A few days would be an ideal situation instead of the weeks of waiting.
Like you, I know of no teacher who has a p-card. Only administrators or those who work on Ross Avenue seemed to have them.

Oh frenchy....I have not met a greedy teacher yet. That is not to say that I won't, but I haven't so far. Who do you think supplies those students who have such crappy parents that they show up for school with no supplies? What kind of person can stand there and teach while a child hasn't even a pencil? Believe me, if I kept a tally it would probably make my husband's blood pressure go through the roof! Especially when we consider that some of the students without supplies have better jewelry than I do and my truck has no fancy wheels on it.

I am married with three grown children. The last one just moved out so we are experiencing "empty nest" quite happily. No dogs, no cats, or anything else to take care of. I am a proud American, Texan and Southern woman. I am very proud of my son, who is serving in the US Navy. I am bilingual as I speak English and Texan. We are currently looking to relocate in Farmers Branch.
