It seems that Colorado is the state to live. They have enacted the toughest laws yet to deal with illegal immigration. No services to illegals and they are actually rounding up and deporting them. Now they face a labor shortage to pick crops. To fix the problem, they are considering having inmates do the labor at $10.00 per hour. The inmate actually only gets pennies on the dollar, but the state gets to use the rest of the money to house, feed, and clothe the inmates. Seems like a win-win situation to me. Maybe we could do that in Texas....I've always thought that inmates should have to work to pay for their upkeep.

I have always thought that inmates should do more to "earn their keep". No reason for them to just sit there while we pay their way.

chulo - I have no idea how your comment relates to this post.

Chulo - Believe me white and black people USED to do the construction work, until cheap and sometimes inferior labor arrived. When driving through Mississippi and Illinois last summer I noticed in those states that they still do construction work. Here's a real shocker for you....they were also doing landscape work. So it seems that states won't collapse because of the lack of cheap labor.

I_S - Surely they won't monitor you! I'm sick of my taxes paying to house these criminals for free! What even burns my buns more is that we have criminals living in better conditions than our soldiers!

They have been doing this in Arizona for years, not just with illegals but with all of their inmates. Repeat offenders don't happen much there. After working in 115 degree weather, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for meals, and only being able to watch the food channel on TV, the criminals tend to find a better way to conduct their lives, or leave the state.

I hope Texas is listening!!!

Chulo, I don't know what construction sites you have been to if you think white folks and black folks don't do the work! My husband is in the contruction business, he is white, half his crew is white and 90% of the other crews he works with are an even mix of white and black.

In the past Inmates worked on the "Chain Gang"...what ever happened to that? They can do road construction and dig the holes for light poles...lordy! Talk about cheap labor!

I'd be willing to let minor offenses work off all their time doing road work and construction.

Sue, how are things going with you? All good?

Shell, I think some idiot politicians convinced some other idiot politicians that the Chain Gangs were "cruel and unusual" punishment. I wonder if they ever considered if the victims of these crimes suffered "cruel and unusual" punishment at the hands of the criminals???? Probably not, seems that the criminials have more rights than the victims.

ChickenLady - couldn't have said the cruel and unusual punishment thing better.

Thank you Sue!

Shell, I am not so sure "amazing" is the word I would use!! What makes me really sick as non citizens, they have NO LEGAL RIGHTS what so ever, but it is not working out that way is it?

They are breaking the law by being here illegally anyway right? So let's put them on the chain gang too!!

Maybe they can do trade work for pennies on the dollar and the rest of the money goes to their citizenship! Sounds good to me!!

Already working here, just take 1/2 of the pay away for citizenship and WAA LAA! LEGAL!!!

And the other half to pay all the back taxes they owe for not having paid them in the first place!!!

Nah...new illegals work say 5yrs to pay off citizenship at $5 an hour and old illegals work 10yrs to pay off their citizenship at $5 an hour AND past U.S. government money aquired PLUS pay an additional fine.

I am just sick of people who aren't supposed to be here get more U.S. government help THAN I DO!
I make too much money to apply for housing discounts, too much money for food, too much for financial assistance, too much for medicaid...yet at any given time I could really use ONE of those helps...even if it is for only a to week period. THEY use it for life! Drives me nuts!
Even my tax dollars go to supporting the illegal population! Dang-it...I want my money back...or at least some decent roads to drive on!

I hear you Shell. I can remember a time when I was only making $7.00 and hour and even that was too much to qualify for any help.

I am married with three grown children. The last one just moved out so we are experiencing "empty nest" quite happily. No dogs, no cats, or anything else to take care of. I am a proud American, Texan and Southern woman. I am very proud of my son, who is serving in the US Navy. I am bilingual as I speak English and Texan. We are currently looking to relocate in Farmers Branch.
