With everything in the new lately about our second ammendment rights, language in the work place, and federal courts trying to make decisions about what happens in Farmers Branch, I just had to question if we would be better off being a Republic and deciding our own way of life.  This is just me thinking out loud and wondering.

Collectively we believe that when you come to this state, you should want to become a Texan and embrace our culture and customs. If you think they way they did it in ________ was better, then leave. The Interstate highway that comes in to Texas has a lane going back out.

We believe in the right to protect ourselves and our property using guns if necessary.  We feel that we need to protect our state’s ability to make that decision, not hand it over to the federal government to decide in their court.  The Supreme Court now is handling a case involving the individual’s right to bear arms. If the federal government wants to over-ride the state’s wishes, we need to consider leaving the union of the United States and be the Republic of Texas again.

Texas was established by fiercely independent people who were not afraid of hard work and would have considered government hand-outs the same as charity and would have been demeaning.  If people want to live off of Lone Star Cards, Medicaid, HUD housing, and freebies offered by the government, then they should leave, or Texans should pass laws to stop those who would live like leeches off of our resources.  As a Republic, we would only offer benefits to those who are legal citizens who have hit a hard time and just need a hand up not a perpetual hand out.

Employment is reserved for citizens and legal immigrants.  If a company wants to hire illegal aliens at a reduced salary cheating our citizens and legal immigrants out of a fair wage, then be ready to face dire consequences.  No jobs, no freebies, then most of the immigration problems are solved.

A person coming illegally into this country is not acceptable.  If our federal government will not build a wall and enforce immigration laws, then cities like Farmers Branch should be able to enforce them without federal courts interfering.  As a Republic, the borders on all sides should be walled and guarded.  You want to come in, then show our militia your papers.

People from many different countries settled Texas, leaving their countries and cultures behind to be Americans.  We don’t speak the German, Gaelic, French, Russian, or other languages of our ancestors.  We speak English, although it has a twang called a Texas accent.  If you don’t want to learn English and be a Texan, then you might consider leaving.  As a Republic we could mandate that all business be transacted in English and if you need a translator, then you need to provide one.  If you can’t learn the language within a year, then you need to return from wherever you came. We need to save the taxpayers’ money and not providing translators and information printed in languages other than English would save money.

Might be a good idea, we have enough oil of Texans. We'd need a new governor though, then, hey, give it a shot. Sure would blister some behinds. lol

Hi Char!
Hopefully, with us being a Republic, we no longer need Ricardo Perry. We would elect a leader to represent Texans with traditional Texas values. I'm just dreaming and feeling quite sad that this great state is deteriorating.

Texas is the only state with a state capitol taller than the U.S. Capitol building.
Texas has the right to secede and divide into up to five (or is it seven) states?
The Texas Flag can be flown at the same height as the U.S. Flag.
Perryo wants to be VP so bad he can taste it --maybe if we are unlucky, he will get his chance. Details in November.
Let the sign up begin. Where does the line begin?

I like the idea of a republic, I always have.To be frank I wish we'd stayed a Republic in the first place. However, the first Non native language spoken in Texas was Spanish. An enormorous porportion of those who died to make this a republic were Mexicans. German ,Polish and Chech were and still are routinely spoken in parts of Texas. Offical records were kept in German in Fredricksberg New Braunsfel and other German settlements untill the first world war. I am a sixth generation native Texan and proud of it.

My family was living in America when it was till a colony. WHY?They were Scots who came here to get land and because they liked a good fight. They couldn't speak Galic in their own land , it was considered Barbaric. They came here and spoke as they pleased. They worked hard to make a new life for them selves and their children. The same thing most immigrents do today. There are a great many Hispanics on welfare, there are a great many Anglo too. I wish no one was and I resent those who will not work. However I'd rather pay my taxes than see I a single child do without food, medication or an education.

I am afraid your idea of an all white Republic just isn't mine. I like the Republic my ancestors fought for, one made up of all races and ethnicities.

If a Democratic gets elected and if the House and Senate stay in Democratic control I'm all for it. Infact, I would insist on it. Except the problem we have with illegal immigration today would probably be nothing to what it would be then. Everyone would be trying to get out of the Unitied Socialist Republic of America.

I can just hear the propaganda that would follow after Texas succeeds. Especially as things worsen in the Unitied Socialist Republic of America and more try to immigrate to the Republic of Texas.

Also, I would predict within 6 years we would be in the same predicement as China and Taiwan. We would be the bad/lost rebellious chilren that need to be brought back within the fold.

May be within 10 yrs we would have another Civil War.

A couple of points-first of all it hasn't been that long ago that some former Texas independents ended up in a standoff in West Texas. Secondly, it really bugs me when we say the state pledge every morning when they say "one state, indivisible (which half the kids slaughter verbally and change to invisible) when Texas retains its right to divide into five states if necessary.

Sounds like some of you aren't proud to be American. Huh, isn't that what some of you jumped all over Michelle Obama about?

I don't really believe that about any of you; I just wanted to make the point how things can be taken out of context.

Momcat ~ "I am afraid your idea of an all white Republic just isn't mine. I like the Republic my ancestors fought for, one made up of all races and ethnicities."

If you go back and read what I wrote, I at no time mentioned an all white Republic. When it comes to benefits that people don't work for, I did add that the person needed to be legal at the end, but I didn't mention any race when talking about them. They can be from any race or any country, but if even if they are straight from Russia (can'[t get much whiter) and not here legally, they should get nothing. I am against anyone living off public tax dollars no matter what race they are. For those who forged this great state with hard work, it would have been demeaning for anyone of any race to take a hand-out and not work for what they had.

My family had Russian as well as Gaelic roots also, but somewhere along the way they assimilated. They spoke English, worked hard, and made a straight path for us to follow.

I'm all for it as well.
Does this mean we are more Texan than American? I'd never leave Texas but i'd love for us to be our own country.

For all of y'all who want to sign up, I didn't think ahead to get a sign-up sheet or a location for everyone to sign up. ;-) Someday there may be a petetion presented to our Texas Legislature to put it on the ballot and let the people of Texas decide if they have had enough interference from the feds.

I do like furbie's idea of the Alamo! Seems fitting somehow.

Thanks for all of your comments.

I am married with three grown children. The last one just moved out so we are experiencing "empty nest" quite happily. No dogs, no cats, or anything else to take care of. I am a proud American, Texan and Southern woman. I am very proud of my son, who is serving in the US Navy. I am bilingual as I speak English and Texan. We are currently looking to relocate in Farmers Branch.
