Households worried about the high cost of keeping warm this winter will draw little comfort from the Farmers' Almanac, which predicts below-average temperatures for most of the U.S.

"Numb's the word," says the 192-year-old publication, which claims an accuracy rate of 80 to 85 percent for its forecasts that are prepared two years in advance.

The almanac's 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least two-thirds of the country can expect colder than average temperatures, with only the Far West and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.

PLEASE SEE the AD BELOW, ENTITLED “THE REAL BARACK OBAMA.” THE AD IS TWO MINUTES LONG; VERY UNCONVENTIONAL FOR A POLITICAL AD, BUT THE LONGER LENgTH WAS NECESSARY. WE HAD TO LEAVE IN ALL THE FOOTAGE OF OBAMA SPEAKING, SO VIEWERS WILL SEE HIM IN HIS OWN WORDS, AS WELL AS THE DETAILED REBUTTAL TO OBAMA’S DISTORTIONS OF THE BIBLE. l_f48e5d27a59b68cb14221ae49a1d0b91.gif picture by obama77010100010300011601200803193d0ed59eb.jpg picture by obama77muslim.jpg picture by obama77

Count Ralph Nader as unimpressed by the crop of supposed finalists to be Barack Obama’s running mate.

“I don’t think he’s that dumb,” said Nader, commenting on widespread speculation that Obama’s choices are down to Sens. Joe Biden, Evan Bayh, or Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine.

The smart pick, according to Nader, is Hillary Rodham Clinton. Nader phoned into Politico Tuesday afternoon to offer his prediction that a surprise nod to Clinton is actually what Obama has in store—never mind the talk of mistrust between the Clintons and Obama.

“He just has to swallow hard and do what JFK did” in picking rival Lyndon Johnson in 1960, said the liberal activist and maverick presidential candidate.

Fort Lauderdale resident Kevin Kearney is in critical condition Tuesday after attempting to kite surf in Tropical Storm Fay. By News Video Tuesday, August 19, 2008 lFORT LAUDERDALE  ? Emergency officials warned South Floridians to seek shelter during Tropical Storm Fay but a man in Fort Lauderdale seeking some thrills on the rough surf didn't heed that warning and ended up in the hospital after being hurt in an astonishing kite boarding accident that was caught on camera

The kite boarder was harnessed into his sail when the wind violently picked him up and slammed him onto the sandy beach. Then, he was dragged across the sand before being lifted up into the air again and blown across the street where the wind slammed him into a building.

A RAINBOW

When you think your road is rocky and a bit too steep to climb,
When you think your guardian angel needs to work some overtime,
When your personal jigsaw puzzle has some pieces that won't fit,
When life has no rhyme or reason and you can't make sense of it,

YOU NEED A RAINBOW

When the clouds are dark and stormy and have blocked the sunshine out,
And perhaps you start to wonder what this life is all about,
When your trials and tribulations seem to be so hard to bear,
And it seems there is no justice anytime or anywhere,

LOOK FOR YOUR RAINBOW

When the molehills seem like mountains and the obstacles are great,
When you feel so heavy laden and your worries just inflate,
When you can't see any ending to the problems that you face,
For they just keep on increasing and you need some breathing space,

PRAY FOR YOUR RAINBOW

It may be you need to look a little higher than before,
Or perhaps a little further to see past the clouds once more.
But you'll know it's worth the effort when your rainbow you can see,
And you understand the love behind God's creativity,

SEARCH FOR YOUR RAINBOW

For your rainbow holds a promise that this turbulence will cease,
And your inner conflict will become, instead, deep inner peace.
But if, though searching, you can't find your rainbow at this time,
Until you can, I say with love, you're welcome to share mine.

What is conspicuously absent in this picture?  This appears to be a video-free zone.  There are no TV sets, no video monitors, and certainly no computer terminals anywhere, and the only wires in sight are telephone cords and the power cords for the electric typewriters.  Assuming they had just cleaned up the place before this picture was taken, it still appears that today's "paperless" newsroom uses about 500 times as much paper as the 1964 newsroom.

LAKE MEXIA Mexia, TX

Postoffice Street Cam GALVESTON

Once notorious for its bordellos, Postoffice Street was the bustling core of retail commerce in the Southwest's most important Cotton and Oil port. It survived the 1900 Storm and the depression of the 30s only to fall prey to the suburban shift of the 60s and the building of the Houston Ship Channel.

The Postoffice Street restoration of the 90s created a revitalized arts, entertainment, and residential district including more than 25 historic buildings. Besides the growing number of residential lofts, the area includes art galleries, boutiques, and shops.

Strong winds and downpours will continue to pound South Florida over the next day as Tropical Storm Fay picks up strength on its journey north.

Most of the region, from Monroe County to Palm Beach County, has already been hit with storms and winds associated with the system, last reported over the Florida Straits and making a beeline for the Lower Keys.

A tropical storm warning was extended along Florida's east coast north to Cocoa Beach and all along the west coast.

"Floridians should not focus on the storm track -- it's a broad area where the storm is going to have an impact," said Gov. Charlie Crist. "We want every Floridian and guest to be a survivor. I know it's only a tropical storm, but we take it seriously."

Tornado watches are likely to come later today for South Florida and the Keys, Crist said. South Florida tornadoes are generally small and narrow, but they can still be dangerous. They can easily flip a car or a trailer. Take cover immediately, weather officials said.    =======================================================
