In this second video I've convinced Lily and Flower to come out and play. It is also their bath time. Chinchillas roll around in dust to bath. Their fur is so dense that if it got wet it would stay wet and not dry off. Instead the dust (sand or volcanic ash) absorbs the dirt and oil from their fur.

Unlike Molly and Astro, Lily and Flower are cage mates. They are both about a year old. Flower is a standard gray chinchilla and Lily has a mutation color called violet. Her fur is a light, soft and has a blueish tint.

They don't make too much noise. But then again, I don't have the cage in my bedroom anymore. I used to have a cage in my bedroom and would hear them running on their wheel all night.

Hi Tracy, I totally love your videos and blogs about your chinchillas. They are so cute!!! I live in a small apartment and don't have any pets right now. But I am hoping to maybe try to get chinchillas some time in the future. I have several questions I would like to ask you some time, if you don't mind. I will try to keep your blog on my faves so I can watch for your videos. Thanks.

I'd love to help when I can. I got my first chinchilla because I was a busy college student living in an apartment. I didn't have time for a cat or dog, nor the space. You may also want to visit http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/ to do some research on the animals.

Tracy, I found that site. I also found Chinchillas.org which has the Chinchilla Club linked.

Just a couple of questions if you don't mind. Where did you buy your chins and where do you buy the food, etc., for them? I went to PetSmart and they have cages for them but the cages are empty and the girl said she didn't know when they would have any. Thanks, Brad

I purchased my chinchillas from local breeders. Flower is from a breeder in Houston and Lily came from a breeder in Oklahoma. My reasons for buying from the breeder instead of the pets stores is because I know what kind of medical/genetic history comes with the animal. You can find chinchillas for sale or advertise that you want to buy one on Chins-n-Quills.

My cage is custom built. But my original cage was from Quality Cages (http://www.qualitycage.com/chinchilla.html). Be careful with pet store cages. Many of them are too small or include plastic. Chinchillas will chew through plastic and it can impact their intestines.

I feed my chinchillas Mazuri brand pellets and Oxbow hay. I have a local feed store order it for me. It's only $12 for $25 pounds. But you can buy Mazuri in smaller bags at PetSmart.

If you want contact information for the two breeders I know in Houston and Oklahoma, let me know. I can e-mail you their contact information.

Thank you so much, Tracy. I will do the research before I buy one (or two). It will be a while before I can get them, but I am hoping that I can start this before long. Thanks, again. Brad.
