DISD wants to lay off and fire employees because of their huge budget deficit. I'm curious, what happened to the credit card abuse "investigation" that was in the news in January 2007?
It's okay for administrators to abuse their priviledges by frivolous and fraudulent personal spending and, as far as I know, not even get so much as a slap on the hand? Now our children and teachers and their families have to suffer the consequences.
Where is the justice?

I have a friend who used to work for the City of Dallas through a temporary agency. She is a very consciencious and quick worker. Not long after she started working, one of the department supervisors told her that the government does things differently than private industry businesses. If she did too much work, then everyone else would be expected to perform at the same production level!
I have been in government offices where the employees seemed to care more about everything else except providing the customer service they were getting paid to perform. When they did do something for you, it was at a snail's pace and as if they were doing you some huge favor.
My opinion, sure we live in the computer age, but it is still possible to perform manual office duties in an efficient manner. The key is that it must actually be done! We will probably continue to hear one excuse after another concerning the high rate of tickets backlogged and fees uncollected. The bottom line, people need to DO their jobs!

Most racially charged incidents happen simply because the racially hypersensitve, both black and white, won't let go of racism and choose to exagerate otherwise benign situations. As an adult, one should learn how to pick and choose one's battles. Mayfield's use of the cliche "black hole" was simply used, as it commonly is, to descibe a situation that has become unexplicably out of control or lost. How self-centered and insecure of Price and Jones to imply that everything black is all about the black race. Price's willingness to jump at all things "black" and Jones' demand for an apology and tooting the horn of "politcal correctness" only shows their level of immaturity.
How sad that in the year 2008 we cannot look to our leaders to show us how to be kind and forgiving toward one another, thinking the best of people instead of assuming the worst. How can we possible expect ourselves as a city, state, or nation to move beyond the past when our leaders won't? GROW UP PEOPLE!
