Someone's brother in law must have needed a job, so the TSA and the DOT got together and passed the "PATRIOT ACT" requireing all truckdrivers with a CDL with a Hazmat endorsement to take and pass a finger print and background check, which in it self is not bad....thus was created.....L-1 IDENTITY SOULTIONS!!   which the truckdriver has to  "PAY"  about $100 bucks to get it done!!   now your CDL is going to cost about $150. to renew!!    I have had a CDL with haz mat since I was 21   a long time  but after this year they will just have to let someone else haul their hazardous material!!!  I guess they can get their NAFTA drivers to do it!!   I wished all truck drivers would shut the U.S .down for about a week and show the U.S. who REALLY runs the country!!!

so you would have to pay for your own fingeprinting? that's ridiculous. who ever is forcing it should be paying for it

don't shut down those trucks. some of us know the importance of them

The truckers strike worked well when most drivers belonged to the Teamsters.

I have a good friend that is an owner operator so I know a lot about all the rules and regulations that have to be followed when on the road. If us 4 wheelers had to obey half of what truckers have to many would toss away the car keys.

I think a truckers strike against the overly high price of fuel would be a good start, followed up by the unfair rules, regulations, taxes and now the finger print system.

OH just give me a few days notice so I can stock up first. :)

How many truckers from mexico have to get finger printed for the same thing?

That's just how the government works - tax the people who keep the country running. They probably had some dumbass right out of college pitching it to them - probably the same inspector as the one who told my husband he had to pour the concrete curb then wait for it to dry and pour the top on. My husband was like "you know that's going to crack and separate, right?" And the 22 year old inspector said that my husband obviously didn't know his concrete. Guess what? It cracked and separated. More money the state flushed down the toilet.

Char: L-1 Identity Solutions is actually a business formed specifically to fingerprint and do background checks on CDL(commercial driver license) holders who wish to haul hazardous materials. Most trucking companies require the endorsement. They charge 100 bucks for the service. Supposedly a driver will only have to do this once as long as they don't drop the haz-mat on the license, but noone knows that for sure. This company supposedly is also required to protect all the information they gather. I can not pass a physical since my heart attack in 2002 so I did not keep my haz-mat but I kept the CDL when I renewed mine last year.

CDL = Commercial Drivers License.

L-1 Identity = The government will stop at nothing to get their national ID system.

I can see it now. Starts with the truckers, some idiot in DC declares it a success after two weeks so they demand it for everyone. $150. for a DL will cause more people to drive unlicensed.

O! Ok, I get it...
The government will continue to tax everyone for ever thing. And PA's right... that's where's it's going. Big socialist government taking more and more control, more and more of our money.

If I was still driving I would have the endorsement. I do not want to think that some nut with a violent history hauling haz mat. I would prefer that the driver hauling gas or explosives to be able to pass a background check. Remember, there are a lot of driving jobs that do not require the endorsement. If you have a thing about the printing and checks, haul produce. Noone is forcing a driver to work at a company that hauls haz-mat. Remember this also, some companies pay five or ten cents a mile more to haul haz-mat.

I don't mind the background and fingerprint checks have had them before when I worked for TDCJ but me having to PAY for them is WRONG!!

That is wrong and if is something required by the employer then the employer needs to pick up the tab.

Bil if I were a driver I wouldn't mind the back ground checks and the finger printing if.

#1 The employer pays
#2 Every driver from mexico and Canada entering this country is checked out and finger printed also before entering.

letter states you have to have proof of US citizenship and be legal to get it, so I guess everyone from other countries can haul it without it!

Canadian drivers have always been printed for their haz-mat endorsements on their license long before we were. They were being printed in the 80's when I was running up there. As far as Mexican drivers,I haven't a clue. Supposedly they are but who knows.Again,if you don't want to be printed, don't haul haz-mat. All the companies require drivers to have a CDL which costs about three times what a regular license costs, should the company pick up that cost? I look at like a mechanic and his tools, it's yours and if you change jobs it goes with you.

But we shouldn't be required to pay for the background checks and fingerprinting......just because they passed that law

you are required to have a license, and renew it. nurses are required to keep up their license. they have to pay for it. etc. many people have to pay dues, or fees. it's not that big of a deal i don't think. dont get me wrong, i understand where you come from. in my job, i am required to be fingerprinted and background check and i.d. badge displayed at all times. my company pays for first. if i lose it, i pay for it. to get my badge back, i have to pay for it. without it, i don't work. it's a very pricey badge. i work in aviation. my point is, we all (ok-many), have to pay for some sort of license. i don't think going on strike and hurting the rest of the country is the way to do it. plus, it should be a tax write off then i would think.

Look,I was a machinist for about fifteen years. I was required to furnish and maintain my own tools. If the company decided I needed a certain tool I was told to get it by a certain date. Granted I sold them when I quit and started driving, but believe me I did not get near what I paid for them. Nobody paid the 2500 for my or my wife's school, and that is a requirement to get a job. Today some companies will pay the school but you have to work at a reduced rate for so long, like two years. And yes your CDL renewal and the haz-mat check is tax deductable.

I drove for over 40 years, and they only had 2 rues i minded, log books and seat belts , if I was a haz mat driver, i wouldn't have any qualms about the added security , it's just part of the territory and the job !
