You've all heard it before.  One loud mouth in the middle of the room complaining of spanish versions of everything in America.  The biggest outcry is: "If we went to their country, they wouldn't cater to us like we do to them as far as language" (in not so many words, trust me)

While that's all well and good to feel and believe this if you want, it irks me to pieces that a lot of these people can't even speak their OWN english language properly.  Most people can't spell without that handy, but unreliable spell check.  It's everything you learned in your english class, from first grade on up to graduation, college for some.  It's not that hard!

If you still can't speak or spell correctly, fine.  But I would suggest you stay out of the debate of hispanics who can not speak our language.  Most of them that I have come in contact with them, do, in fact, make an effort....while the idiots who can't do their own language correctly justify it with "I'm using slang."

It's such a sad world.

you my friend are so wrong!!! Most of the Mexicans I come up with cant speak English and dont even make an attempt too..For example.. Living next door to me is a Mexican family that have lived there for at least 10 years... and NO one in the whole family speaks a word of ENglish.... they all say no habla english.. Why? they live here dont they? So then why do we cater to these people? Why must we print everything in ENglish as well as Spanish..why must I hear recordings in ENglish as well as Spanish.. My parents came to the US in the late 1940's... and they both learned the language and now my mom speaks perfect English. My question is why do the mexicans dont even make a attempt to at least learn the language.. Its because they are too lazy... and they know that the US will cater to them

Agreed. Also, these people claiming these things about other countries have probably never been to any other country. My wife's coworker just came back from a business trip that took her to Italy (Rome), Germany, Switzerland, and France. She doesn't speak all those different languages, but they all catered to her. Of course she wasn't living there, but a lot of people don't realize, most countries are going at least bi-lingual. Their own language and English. Most other countries schools teach multi-languages. I have a couple employees from part of Russia that speak 7 languages. I wish I had paid more attention in my Spanish class when I was in High School.

I would suggest you not take a condescending attitude toward American citizens expressing their Constitutional opinions, no matter what they are.

The fact is most Mexican, Honduran, El Salvadorians and other central Americans crossing the Rio Grande have less than a sixth grade education and in some cases can't read or write Spanish much less English.

I take offense that anyone would seek to exclude any American citizens from any debate that would concern them.

I work with an ESL teacher who is a Mexican native married to an American and now a citizen. She graduated from the University of Mexico City and has a masters from UNT. According to her, what is being passed off as Spanish and nothing more than the Spanish version of Ebonics. She is equally appalled that there are students who have come from PreK through senior year in high school and despite all best efforts of the school, still are not fluent. What is odd is that we also have kids from places as diverse as Korea, Vietnam and Pakistan. Those kids don't have the benefit of ESL and in addition, their parents WANT them to learn English. Most of them work very hard to become fluent because their families came here to better themselves, not to sponge off of the largesse of the nation. Once again, I have no problem with someone who comes here legally and becomes a member of the society. I do have problems with those who sneak in and demand services for which they have not paid. And finally, since learning English is one of the requirements for citizenship, explain how we need ballots in so many languages since ONLY CITIZENS SHOULD BE VOTING??????!!!!!!

There is not a Country in this WORLD that lets illegale Poeple stay, feed them, houses them and gives up free medical care.
Now, you want us to foot the bill.
Nothing is realy done about it, Mr.W.Bush and Buddies have big Ranches and need cheap labor!
Make rules that apply for all Illegales, enforce them. Make it mandatory for them to learn ENGLISH! This Goverment is a JOKE!

silvermoon, are you in the habit of making wide sweeping generalizations with out any knowledge or research of what you are mis-representing? just type into any search engine and ,just to name 2, france and italy ,have problems with illeagal immagration also, just not on the scale that we do. look at italy's borders and you do not see an entire continent on their southern border like usa

The best way to master the language whether verbal or in writing is to practice. My dear husband is not that great of a speller, he's always had a hard time with it. If I criticized him would I be building him up or tearing him down?

I don't think it's fair to criticize people's grammatical skills, especially here on the blogs.

Much bigger issues to tackle like the global warming scam, illegal immigration, terrorism, etc.

gratefulgrace...people like silvermoon prove my point..his spelling is terrible on very simple words that he should have learned before even entering 5th grade. why should i have patience with those who want to complain of how we're "catering" to hispanics, we they can't be bothered with mastering their own language?

and txhank? my experiences are obviously different from yours, therefore, i'm not wrong, and neither are you. but from my end, i haven't had one experience of a hispanic not making an effort, and not being an ass about it..which is more than i can say for an english-speaking person, when i correct their 3rd grade spelling. "so, i know what i mean!"

sorry..not going to cut it. oh, and yes, other countries do cater to americans, in many ways..and it's surprising, seeing as how we treat our own
and before anyone starts, i am not for getting into our country illegally.

and considering that you group all hispanics together by saying "they're lazy" in general says more about you than anything else you said

and one more thing, before someone comments, because i know they're going to...

i don't capitalize when noting, sometimes when typing, simply because it's fast in this way

however, i'm refering to the easy spelling errors and the bad grammer...such as, "why do the mexicans dont even make a attempt"

^^ there's just no excuse for that crap

Yes, you have to take life lightly sometimes. I am also very bugged by the lack of spelling ability by so many as well. After my last 2 weeks, I need to have some lighthearted fun. Please forgive me! Sew sawry. j/k.

So what your say is a person like myself doesn’t have a right to voice my view on illegals in America? Lmao lmao. I’m not the best speller, and sometimes I just hit the wrong keys, and sometimes I just do it on purpose to drive an aul people like you up the wall.
But to say America citizens don’t have a right to express their anger over illegals in this country is crazy.

By the way, how did you like the court reporter who made a mess of the Dolly Routier transcripts?

i don't keep up with court reporter news..sorry..

in any case, i didn't say one word about illegals...everyone is entitled to express their opinion, and my opinion was it would be in your (that's a general your..doesn't mean just you) best interest to stay out of the debate on giving hispanics "help" as far as language barriers go, if you, yourself, can not speak or write the language properly

try and reread my post again...:)

and mckinney...if you knew me, you'd know i'm the least likely to take life seriously....but when it comes to people taking their education for granted, i can't make a joke about that

I consider myself an artist...I find my faith in nature...and I express my life through words on paper. I have a three-year-old daughter who is everything to me, and I am in a long-term relationship with a wonderful partner. That's really all you need to know right now.
